What a tradesman website actually costs in the UK
Four different models, four different price shapes, and almost nobody publishing a number. This page lays out the market as it stands in 2026 and shows where our own prices sit inside it, including where we are dearer than the cheapest option.
How to read the numbers on this page. Ranges below are gathered from publicly advertised prices and from what tradespeople report paying in public forums and trade groups between 2024 and 2026. Where a figure comes from member reports rather than a published rate, it says so on the line. We name categories of supplier rather than individual small firms.
The four models, and what each one is really selling
Every quote you get will be one of four things. The monthly figure and the one-off figure are not comparable until you work out what happens at the end of the term, so start by identifying which model you are being sold.
- Monthly rental. A low or zero setup fee and a monthly payment that never stops. The provider keeps the domain, the hosting and often the code. Stop paying and the site goes off.
- One-off build. A single fee, sometimes split into two payments, and the assets transferred to you. Hosting is either yours to buy or a small separate cost.
- Agency build. A larger one-off project fee, usually with discovery, design rounds and a retainer offered afterwards. Aimed at businesses with a marketing budget rather than a van.
- DIY builder. A subscription for the software and your own time for everything else. Cheap in pounds, expensive in evenings.
Ranges are indicative of the 2026 UK market and vary by trade, page count and location.
Where our prices sit, including where we are not the cheapest
A refresh is £595, a new site is £999 and a Local build is £1,995. All three are one-off, all three include the domain in your name, the hosting in your account and the code handed over. Care is £45 a month and optional.
That puts us in the middle of the one-off market, not at the bottom of it. You can find a one-off trade build for £250. We are four times that at the New Site tier, so here is the honest reason. At £250 you are buying a template with your logo dropped in, usually five pages, usually written in an afternoon. At £999 you are buying pages written for the searches your customers actually type, coded from scratch rather than assembled from a page builder, and a person who answers WhatsApp afterwards. If the £250 version does what you need, buy the £250 version.
Against monthly rental we are dearer on day one and cheaper by roughly the middle of year two. Against an agency we are a fraction of the price, and we do not pretend to offer what an agency offers, which is a team, a strategist and a retainer.
Never buy on price alone. Ask any provider three questions in writing: whose name is on the domain, whose account holds the hosting, and what you keep if you leave. The answers matter more than the number.
The costs that do not appear in the quote
- Content. Someone has to write the words and choose the photographs. If the quote does not say who, it is you.
- Photography. Phone photos are usually fine. Stock photography is not, and it is the fastest way to look like every other site in your trade.
- Changes. Ask what a text change costs after launch and how long it takes. This is where cheap builds get expensive.
- Google Business Profile. For most trades this is the highest intent thing you own. It is a separate job from the website and often not included.
- Renewals. Domain and hosting renew whether anyone reminds you or not. Know which account they sit in before launch, not after.
Trade makes a difference to the page count more than the price. An electrician needs a page each for fuse boards, EICRs and rewires, which is why websites for electricians runs longer than most. A roofer needs storm and leak pages instead, set out in websites for roofers, and a builder needs the long read described in websites for builders.
